Yesterday I did a fun exercise with Don Faast. I had a total of two minutes to draw something! Just TWO minutes! Can you imagine? LOL So this is what I came up with. No forthought, no planning, just raw drawing. I called it nature because for some reason I drew a whale, a heart, a leaf and a set of lips. ;D I drew it with watercolor pencils on a little 4x6 canvas board. And guess what? IT WAS FUN!!!!!! I was actually giggling while I was drawing. That hasn't happened in a long time. I think I will go back and use some water to really bring the colors out in it because I actually like this silly little drawing. Thank you Don! I'm learning so much from you already!

fp you are silly! ;D
The purpose of that exercise was to make me draw without any thought to it....just let the hand go and the mind will follow. LOL It's certainly nothing to "put out there" as it were, but I posted it just to show the results of the exercise.
I actually watered the canvas today and I'm surprised by the depth of color in it now. Now I want to keep adding and doing some mixed media stuff to it to complete it. It's kinda cool because I just did it for me and I like it just for me. And the freedom in that is amazing!
WOO HOOO!

Hey fp...Let me send you a copy of the book....no charge. You will get a kick out of it....as Jaqueline did. Here are a couple of chapter headings: "Do Your Worst Work!" and.... "If Your Paint Palette Looks Like A Kidney Shape with A Hole In It...Throw It Off A Cliff!"
It gets you painting with the abandon of a 4 year old.
Let me know...or maybe Jaqueline will figure out a way to put a link to it on the forum...so anyone who wishes can have a look.
Its fun! Don Faast

It IS fun! ;D
Don I'm not sure how to add a pdf or if it can even be done. I'm sure Allen or fp know though. I'd be happy to do that if we can figure out how. LOL

LOL Gary I was afraid of that too. But really, so WHAT if something horrible appears? I honestly don't think it will but so what if it does? It's just one little piece of art right?
By the way, this piece looks so much cooler now. I'm almost finished with the mixed media stuff and I'll add a pic soon. Hope you are having a great day!

Don, I found out some info on creating PDFs at adobe.com: createpdf.adobe.com/. You have to sign up and pay over there to do it. Either $14.99 a month or $39 a month depending on if you get the Basic or Plus deal.

Arowheart....Hey...thats the whole point.
Produce something absolutely stinkin' downright HORRIBLE! In fact...make 10 horribles. Who cares? Here is the master key to doing horribles.....keep a good size sledge hammer nearby. When the horribles appear....just rare back and flatten them!
When you have done that, then you feel great! And off you go. One of the chapter titles in my short book on painting is..."Do Your Worst Work". Every artist in history has done a ton of crap work----they only show what looks good. If you like, I will send you a free copy of the first draft at no cost----to get your feedback on it.

mine look horrible enough... you see what's in facebook? well the seascape had lots of help. Anyway... 8 of them got me certified at Alexander Art. u send out .pdfs or books? I might go for a copy... I found a Pansies painting by Lowell Speers I may try and use it for teaching florals...if it works out ok for me. In fact I have books of florals by him from his pbs shows. I did A SIMPLE DAISY and got $100 for it!! That is now my 'student' who is coming to get Friday night's work with her sister...

Don, this really does work for me. I am going to start the second lesson in the book as soon as things settle down here. They are probably going to be moving Peggy to rehab monday so I am hoping that when she is moved things will quiet down a bit and I'll actually have some time to create some more "paint and throw" pictures.
